The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation estimates that about 795 million people, in a world population exceeding 7.3 billion, are living with constant hunger and undernourishment. Poverty is the main cause of hunger, making it unsurprising that an overwhelming majority of people living in famine are also from developing countries.
