The Power of a Compliment

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

– Author Leo Buscaglia

Kindness matters. Your words have the strength to build up or tear down someone.   Every single soul is going through some struggle, be kind, and spread this kindness. Here a question arises, how can I spread kindness? The first and the most simple step one can take to spread love and compassion is by” Giving compliments to people around you.”

Why should one be giving compliments more often?

Here are some of the reasons to compliment someone every day.

  1. Compliments go a long way

Kind words and compliments go a long way. They can keep someone’s soul warm for years.  Giving an honest compliment is an astonishing positivity boost! There is an exciting thing about compliments; they are not only good for the recipients but also great for the people who give them as well.

2.An act of altruism

Giving sincere compliments is an actual act of altruism. Altruism is transmissible: When we are a giver, we are not only helping the immediate recipient of our gift but also spurring a ripple effect of generosity through our society. It promotes social connections. Altruism has the ability to spread by three degrees—from person to person. As a result, each person in a network can impact the lives of dozens or even hundreds of people, cultivating a society that is ideal for everyone.

  1. Compliments are F.R.E.E

Compliments are free. They cost nothing. But the ripple effect of positivity they create goes a long way.  It’s the best way to combat negativity. Being a part of society, we have become so insensitive to the needs, wants, and struggles of others. Just by

giving a little kind compliment, we can change someone’s day, month, year, and their whole life maybe. Why are we so short on kindness? Be more kind. Show more kindness.

  1. What goes around, comes around

Be a source of positivity, motivation, and happiness in the lives of others. Everything you give will eventually come back to you many times over. Take a few seconds to ponder upon the last time someone gave you a genuine compliment—and not just a random compliment, but an honest piece of specific, deep admiration. How did it make you feel? Compliments don’t just make others feel great. They also boost our own self-confidence and give warmth to your soul.

  1. Genuine compliments build up trust

The desire for connection, to be acknowledged or to be noticed is the need for every human being on this planet. Humans crave these elements. Admiring your friends and people around,  build up their trust. We are bringing out the best in people only by giving compliments. We all require someone who we can trust, and by building it in others, we are, in return, making it more in ourselves.

Kindness is contagious. As a society, we have the ability to affirm that this is true by demonstrating the use of positive, influential words. Giving honest compliments will not only make the recipient’s day, but this little deed of kindness will leave you feeling more positive as well. Showing somebody why you appreciate them or how they have made a positive impact in your life is a mutually rewarding experience. I challenge you to be a source of positivity and bliss in the lives of people around, so deliver a genuine compliment (or two, or three) today.
