Eco-Friendly Apps to Help You Go Green & Save

The recent news about climate change would inspire just about anyone to start thinking about lessening their impact on the planet. After all, there is no Planet B, and we need to start acting like it. The easiest way to do that is with baby steps—saying no to plastic and investing in a reusable water bottle, ditching the plastic straws and going without, or being more conscious of the impact of fast fashion companies on the environment.

By starting at home, we can all begin to lessen our impact on the planet. Though at some point, everyone on Earth needs to start cutting back and doing without. While some people want to run out and save the world like Greta Thunberg, there are others that want to start lessening their impact at home in any way they can—but don’t know where to start.

Luckily, there’s an app for that. With the climate crisis on the rise, eco-minded companies have begun to produce environmentally-conscious apps to help everyone with an iPhone or Android do what they can to help the planet. While you may wonder how simply downloading an app can help you live more sustainably, there’s no limit to what these apps can help you do and achieve— all while helping you save money.

Apps like DropCountr and JouleBug help you track your energy usage and see where your main areas of energy waste are, enabling you to cut back. Other apps like Fat Llama and ThredUp let you resell your unwanted belongings and clothing, lightening your load (and closet) and ending the cycle of unwanted “stuff” ending up in landfills and in the hands of someone who really needs it. Then there are apps like iRecycle and Literatti, who point you in the direction of recycling centers and reward you for each piece of litter you may see lying around.

Helping the Earth doesn’t have to be difficult—it can be as easy as pressing “download.” This helpful chart provided by Turbo Intuit lays out all of the various options for eco-friendly apps that will help you do your part to save the planet, all while saving you a little money. Remembering to reduce, reuse, and recycle has never been so easy!
